Live class: Painting from Photos - large canvas continued
In this session, I will show you different ways to evaluate and correct your drawing without ruining your initial transparent layers. Our Yosemite Falls subject matter is quite complex and an excellent opportunity to train our “artist’s eye”. See you then!
Live class: Painting from Photos - Project 4
Photos can be a great source of inspiration in the studio. However, they do have their limitations. Learn tips and tricks to evaluate your photo reference to glean all the important information needed to create a painting full of color and light.
For this month’s workshop, I will be demonstrating my process to create a large finished oil painting. Project 4 will be building on the foundation of our work from the previous session.
Use whichever medium you are comfortable with (if you do not have oil paints, acrylic would be a great choice to follow along).
See you then!
Live class: Painting from Photos - Project 3
Photos can be a great source of inspiration in the studio. However, they do have their limitations. Learn tips and tricks to evaluate your photo reference to glean all the important information needed to create a painting full of color and light.
For this month’s workshop, I will be demonstrating my process to create a large finished oil painting. Project 3 will be transferring our drawing to the larger canvas and laying out the foundational layers.
If you prefer to use a smaller canvas, an 11”x14” or so will be sufficient. Use whichever medium you are comfortable with (if you do not have oil paints, acrylic would be a great choice to follow along). I will be using a stretched canvas 20”x30”, my water mixable oil paints and hog hair bristle brushes.
See you then!
Live class: Painting from Photos - Project 2
Photos can be a great source of inspiration in the studio. However, they do have their limitations. Learn tips and tricks to evaluate your photo reference to glean all the important information needed to create a painting full of color and light.
For this month’s workshop, I will be demonstrating my process to create a large finished oil painting. Project 2 will be creating a small “study” to work out the design basics to prepare for the larger canvas.
Use whichever medium you are comfortable with (if you do not have oil paints, acrylic would be a great choice to follow along). I will be using a small canvas panel (approx 6”x8”), my water mixable oil paints and hog hair bristle brushes.
See you then!

In this workshop we are going to cover some specific tips about how to draw people, plants, and buildings.
The purpose of this class is to teach you the basic skills in seeing and drawing, giving you the tools to express yourself using your own unique style.
